HINO Australia says Hino Japan has sent a team of engineers to conduct thorough testing of the 500 series truck in Australia.
According to Hino, Australia features difficult and wide-ranging driving conditions, so developing a ‘one-size-fits-all’ vehicle to optimally suit local conditions is a serious challenge.
Hino says the Japan team focused on improving the performance, comfort and emissions of the 500 series’ eventual replacement, particularly with a view to ensure compliance with Euro V and VI emission standards.
The team tracked the 500 range’s performance, fuel economy, comfort and emissions by gathering data on the vehicle’s performance under local conditions. Much of the testing focused on capturing data which will be used to modify the 500 series of trucks to meet the Euro V emission standards scheduled for 2011.
Hino says the team was particularly focused on testing the 500’s diesel particulate filter and looked at how it would best match varying types of vehicle operation. Checking the 500’s Diesel Particulate Reduction (DPR) settings were also very useful in Australian conditions.
